Meeting the GNWT's legal duty to consult with Aboriginal Governments

Understanding Aboriginal and Treaty Rights

Understanding Aboriginal and Treaty Rights in NWT provides an overview of the history of Aboriginal rights negotiations in the NWT, and how the roles and responsibilities of Aboriginal governments relate to the Government of the Northwest Territories today.

The Department’s public awareness campaign entitled Understanding Aboriginal and Treaty Rights in the Northwest Territories (2013) is part of continued efforts to increase the understanding of the history of the Northwest Territories indigenous peoples and appreciation for the rich diversity of cultures and traditions.
