NWT Flag

The Government of the Northwest Territories is responsible for the Northwest Territories flag. The Canadian Flag and the provincial/territorial flags are symbols of honour and pride for all Canadians. All flags are to be treated with respect.

The correct procedures for flying the Canadian flag and other flags and standards, including the flag of the Northwest Territories, can be found on the Canadian Heritage Flag Etiquette on Canada webpage.

Half-Masting

The half-masting of a flag is a formal gesture to respect the time of sorrow and mourning. There are specific procedures involved when a flag is at half-mast. For additional information on half-masting, visit the Canadian Heritage website.

The GNWT will half-mast in the NWT when appropriate by issuing a notice to half-mast the NWT flag on all GNWT buildings and establishments across the NWT. The GNWT will also follow, when appropriate for our territory, the direction issued by Canadian Heritage, Government of Canada.
