On June 1, the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories enacted the Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Implementation Act, which legalizes the sale and use of cannabis in the Northwest Territories once federal legislation is passed.

The Government of the Northwest Territories has provided a summary of the key points in the legislation for the public.

Bills are proposed laws considered by the Legislative Assembly, and must pass through several stages of scrutiny, including: introduction and first reading, second reading, standing committee review, Committee of the Whole review, third reading, and assent by the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories.
