Function

The Law Foundation of the Northwest Territories' primary purpose is to receive and manage the interest generated from clients' funds held by lawyers in mixed trust accounts.

The Law Foundation of the Northwest Territories is an independent organization established under Part VII of the Legal Profession Act.

Appointment Instrument

A person who is not a member of the Society and who shall be appointed by the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories; and 

4 other persons to be appointed from among the members of the Law Society by the Executive in accordance with the rules.

Term Duration

2 years.

Time and Travel Requirements

Typically 4-6 meetings per year in Yellowknife or remotely.

Remuneration

Members are not compensated and act as volunteers.
