The Division of Intergovernmental Relations protects and advances the political, economic, environmental, social and cultural interests of the people of the Northwest Territories by pursuing and fostering relationships with other levels of government, including federal, provincial, and territorial governments and circumpolar countries, around matters of shared significance.
The division relies on collaborative relationships with other GNWT departments in order to provide accurate and relevant advice to support the Premier’s participation in intergovernmental meetings, including:
- First Ministers’ Meetings
- Canada’s Premiers Meetings (Council of the Federation)
- Western Premiers’ Conference
- Northern Premiers’ Forum
- Arctic Council
- Bilateral meetings with provincial and territorial Premiers
