Strengthening Relations with Indigenous Governments

The GNWT is committed to developing and maintaining respectful intergovernmental relations with NWT Aboriginal Governments. The GNWT’s Intergovernmental Relations Policy defines Aboriginal Governments as all Governments that have negotiated or are in the process of negotiating self-government agreements with the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada. A productive and effective intergovernmental relationship among the GNWT and Aboriginal Governments promotes greater collaboration and cooperation on common goals and priorities. Positive working relationships will make it easier for the GNWT to advance its own priorities, including those that relate to the social and economic well-being of residents.
