The Aboriginal Consultation and Aboriginal Relations division is responsible for providing strategic and policy advice to GNWT departments to support the coordination of the GNWT’s overall Aboriginal government engagement work across multiple departments. In 2012 the GNWT developed a formal approach to engaging with Aboriginal Governments. Respect, Recognition, Responsibility:  The Government of the Northwest Territories’ Approach to Engaging with Aboriginal Governments (2012), which highlights principles of engagement with Aboriginal governments that include:
