Special Events Fund

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs has a Special Events Fund to provide financial assistance to Northwest Territories (NWT) Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations for annual general assemblies, special assemblies, and other special events such as National Indigenous Peoples Day.

The Special Events Fund applies to Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations that sponsor and undertake to organize and host annual general assemblies, special assemblies, and other special events in the NWT. Annual funding for this purpose is limited and may not cover all costs incurred by the Indigenous government or Indigenous organization applying for the available financial assistance.

Annual General Assembly – an annual general assembly, meeting, or gathering of an Indigenous government.

Special Assembly – an assembly, other than an annual general assembly, held by an Indigenous government for purposes that may include political, social, cultural, and economic objectives.

Special Events – other special events hosted by an Indigenous government or an Indigenous organization, as approved for funding by the Deputy Minister of Executive and Indigenous Affairs.  Examples include celebrations of significant milestone anniversaries and the hosting of conferences.

National Indigenous Peoples Day Event – an event hosted by an Indigenous government or an Indigenous organization, as approved for funding by the Deputy Minister of Executive and Indigenous Affairs, to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

The 2022-2023 application is provided below.  The deadline for the 2022-2023 submissions for the Special Events Fund is June 10, 2022.
